The Bottom Drawer with Elizabeth Miki Brina
Join the Bagri Foundation for the fourth episode in our second series of The Bottom Drawer. Featuring interviews with guest writers to discuss their early efforts and inspiration, this year’s version includes books that changed their life, and focusses on UK Debuts. On 17 June, we invite author Elizabeth Miki Brina to share her story and what led to her debut Speak, Okinawa, interviewed by author Rowan Hisayo Buchanan. Elizabeth Miki Brina received her MFA in creative writing from the University of New Orleans. She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Bread Loaf Scholarship and a New York Summer Writers Institute Scholarship. She currently lives and teaches in New Orleans.
Rowan Hisayo Buchanan is the author of Harmless Like You and Starling Days. Her work has won the Authors’ Club First Novel Award and a Betty Trask Award. She has been shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award. She has been published in Granta, The Atlantic, Guernica and elsewhere.
