Roots of Fire tours to India

The Royal Opera House, Mumbai

We are excited to announce that Roots of Fire, a project supported by the Bagri Foundation comes to India this week! The innovative project, produced by the chamber orchestra Sinfonia Verdi in partnership with the Deccan Heritage Foundation, aims to celebrate the musical dialogue between East and West.

Sinfonia Verdi, directed by conductor David Murphy, will work with the legendary Sarod virtuoso Amjad Ali Khan and his sons, Sarod sensations, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash to embark on this project. From today, open workshops and masterclasses take place at the Lourdes Convent in Saligao with Goan children and musicians exploring musical collaboration through the fusion of Eastern and Western traditions.

The collaborations will come together for the first time in a performance at the Kala Academy, Goa on 19 January, 7pm with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and stellar musicians from Sinfonia Verdi. It will also feature works by Mozart and David Murphy. Roots of Fire continues on 20 January at 7pm, with a performance by Khan’s son’s Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash and Sinfonia Verdi at the newly restored Royal Opera House, Mumbai.
