Seeta Patel Presents “The Rite of Spring”
Opening in Newcastle at Dance City is Seeta Patel’s re-imagining of ‘The Rite of Spring’. Taking the South Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam with its intricate rhythmic footwork, expressive prowess, geometric and dynamic movements, award-winning choreographer Seeta Patel takes on the challenge of re-imagining the iconic The Rite of Spring for an international cast of Bharatanatyam dancers.
Set to be one of the most exciting flirtations between East and West in current times, the production will look beyond notions of the exotic and orientalist perceptions of Eastern classical arts.
The performance will showcase some of the finest Indian classical dance talent across the globe in an exciting bridge between two very technical, powerful and evocative art forms (Western classical music and Indian classical dance).
Bagri Foundation is proud to be a principal sponsor of The Rite of Spring, co-commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, The Place, Birmingham Hippodrome, Curve, The Lowry, Pavilion Dance South West and Dance4. Supported by British Council, Dance City, Dance Studio Leeds, Kala Sangam, Spin Arts and Yorkshire Dance.
